Report Filtering Examples
Some common filtering scenarios are explained below.
User Events Search
A simple way to identify user events is to use a description filter. In this example we want to search for all user events in the past hour.
- Expand the Time filter and select Relative time.
-
Set Show items when the value:
-
is in the last
-
1
-
hours
-
- Click Apply filter. Only events from the last hour will now be displayed.
- Expand the Description filter and select Advanced filtering.
-
Set Show items when the value:
-
contains
-
User
-
- Click Apply filter. Only events from the last hour which contain 'User' will now be displayed.
You can identify events involving a specific user by entering the user's name in the description search. You could also add a second description to filter specific user events containing door, entry granted, not allowed, etc.
Combined Description
A common filtering requirement is to combine two descriptions, perhaps to identify events for a particular record type in a specific location or to view schedule changes in an area. In this scenario we are going to find events at the garage door yesterday.
- Expand the Time filter and select Relative date.
-
Set Show items when the value:
-
is in the last
-
1
-
days
-
- Disable the Include today selection.
- Click Apply filter. Only events from yesterday will now be displayed.
- Expand the Description filter and select Advanced filtering.
-
Set Show items when the value:
-
contains
-
Alex Reader
-
And
-
contains
-
Garage Door
-
- Click Apply filter. Events from yesterday which contain both 'Alex Reader' and 'Garage Door' will be displayed.
Exclude Description
Another way to combine two descriptions is to include one and exclude the other. In this scenario we want to find PIR events this week, but we want to exclude the entrance PIR as we're not interested in those events.
- Expand the Time filter and select Advanced filtering.
-
Set Show items when the value:
-
is on or after
-
Click the calendar and select the first day of the current week.
-
- Click Apply filter. Only events from the current week will now be displayed.
- Expand the Description filter and select Advanced filtering.
-
Set Show items when the value:
-
contains
-
PIR
-
And
-
does not contain
-
Entrance
-
- Click Apply filter. Only events from the current week which contain 'PIR' and do not contain 'Entrance' will now be displayed.
Date Range
To filter events for a custom date range, use the after and before advanced selections.
- Expand the Time filter and select Advanced filtering.
-
Set Show items when the value:
-
is after
-
Click the calendar and select the first day of the custom period.
-
You may also want to set a time for the custom period to start on that date.
-
And
-
is before
-
Click the calendar and select the last day of the custom period.
-
You may also want to set a time for the custom period to end on that date.
-
- Click Apply filter. All events from the custom period will now be displayed.
